I would hope to present the viewer with a distilled image that would elicit a response of ‘I’ve been there!’ My work often alludes to a spiritual as well as a physical presence.” Rory has been the recipient of many prestigious awards over the years and he is a regular contributor to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London.
Artist’s Statement
As an artist, I love to explore the juxtaposition of light and color. It is within this context, and flowing from my belief in a creator God, that I seek to reflect the beauty and awe of the natural world. Psalm 36 talks of God’s providence and care for us; the psalmist encourages us to see the world in the context of His light.
Over the past few years I have been increasingly drawn to certain colors and light patterns that the sun illuminates, and which are particularly prevalent at dawn and dusk. I’m sure we have all been struck by the majesty of such scenes; they speak to me of God’s omnipotence and His place as the ultimate creator/artist. The sky is His canvas!
I am also fascinated by the diffused colors that emerge when the sun shines through glades of trees. Through careful study and experimentation I have discovered that branches turn from black to gray to a dusky amber, then disappear …
Whatever you are facing in life, I hope that the paintings in this exhibition will encourage you and pass on a sense of inner light, as well as a reminder of God’s everlasting care for you.
