A graduate of the Chelsea School of Art, London, Rory seeks to reflect the beauty of the created world through his work. Whether focusing on cityscapes, mountains or the coast, his work never ceases to engage the viewer. Rory says of his work, “It is my intention within each work to capture a sense of time and place. I would hope to present the viewer with a distilled image that would elicit a response of ‘I’ve been there!’ My work often alludes to a spiritual as well as a physical presence.” Rory has been the recipient of many prestigious awards over the years and he is a regular contributor to the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London.

Artist’s Statement

As an artist, I love to explore the juxtaposition of light and color. It is within this context, and flowing from my belief in a creator God, that I seek to reflect the beauty and awe of the natural world. Psalm 36 talks of God’s providence and care for us; the psalmist encourages us to see the world in the context of His light.

Over the past few years I have been increasingly drawn to certain colors and light patterns that the sun illuminates, and which are particularly prevalent at dawn and dusk. I’m sure we have all been struck by the majesty of such scenes; they speak to me of God’s omnipotence and His place as the ultimate creator/artist. The sky is His canvas!

I am also fascinated by the diffused colors that emerge when the sun shines through glades of trees. Through careful study and experimentation I have discovered that branches turn from black to gray to a dusky amber, then disappear …

Whatever you are facing in life, I hope that the paintings in this exhibition will encourage you and pass on a sense of inner light, as well as a reminder of God’s everlasting care for you.

“Seven Series”

A Retrospective Exhibition of Art by Cherry Sweig

The prolific artworks of Cherry Sweig were combined in a solo exhibition November 6 – 27, 2022. Guided by seven renowned collections and descriptive commentaries, viewers traveled around the world and back. Cherry presented themed demonstrations: Saturdays and Sundays in November – St. James by-the-Sea ‘en plein air’ inside and out, and Corfu’s Skyrian horse watercolors from her upcoming book. Other demonstrations included: urban sketchbook illustration and oil painting of Meteora, the giant pillared rock formations in central Greece, with Eastern Orthodox monasteries precariously “built in the air.”
